Intro

Our chair supervises bachelor and master theses related to the research topics of interest in our chair.

You can find potential topics here. However, the list is small and may serve more as an inspiration. For finding the right topic for you, please talk to us (see below).

Since our resources are limited, we can currently only take a small number of thesis students. Because of this, we ask you to apply with the information specified below.

You may also first want to check on our webpage who works in our chair, and what their interests are.

How to apply

To ensure the best match between students and topics, we ask you to provide the following information:

  • A short explanation what makes your background suited for the thesis topic. E.g., point out courses/projects you have taken. Courses/projects directly in line with the topic (e.g., quantum) as well as more general background (e.g., theoretical computer science/math knowledge) can be of interest here.
  • What topics you are interested in. If you have already chosen a specific topic (optional), please let us know. In any case, tell us what areas interest you, what is specifically fascinating, whether you enjoy more theoretical/mathematical or practical work. (The purpose is to understand what kinds of topic are a good fit, so try to be precise.)
  • Grade transcript. Please highlight or point out the courses that you think are particularly relevant (in light of the first bullet point).
  • Whether you are looking for a bachelor or master thesis. (Or something else, in special cases.)
  • Your intended timeline. (When do you plan to start, when to submit.)
  • Anything else you wish us to know.

Please send the information to thesis.im3hjf@rwth.unruh.de.

We collect applications and will go through them maybe once a month, so please have patience.

We will next go through applications after August 25.

About external theses

We sometimes get approached by students who wish to do a thesis at a different institution. (E.g., another university, a company, as part of an internship, etc.) As a rule, we do not take such topics, except in narrow circumstances such as a pre-existing collaboration with the supervisor at the other institution.
